Hello and good morning and afternoon. My name is Haines Barco and right now I’m taking Writing for Engineers this is a portfolio based on my process in the course. I am a structural engineering major at City College of New York. I love basketball and soccer.I’m looking forward to graduating from the class of 2026.
SELF ASSESSMENT
During the learning and achievement in my class English Writing for Engineers. It has been a great learning experience as I was able to improve many of my skills and was able to acknowledge most of the course learning outcomes of this class. During this semester, I was able to work on many different assignments and was able to interact with my classmates in many different ways. Most of these assignments will be named throughout this essay and will look at my improvement and reflection on them. Each of these assignments has a different skill I was able to improve, and they will be named throughout this essay. These assignments were mostly given out throughout every different month class but we will take different times to learn something new or refresh such as getting familiar with the different things we needed to learn in English 101.
The first assignment I was able to complete and Professor Rodwell’s class was the formal letter of introduction. The formal introduction was a way to introduce ourselves, and our main majors and goals. In this assignment, I was able to talk about my engineering major. While I was looking to the future, such as construction, my specialization was in structural engineering. Most of all this assignment was able to help me with to give my I’ll grave rhetorical situation on while back when I’m coming on and how am I focusing on learning in this class. This can be seen when I introduce myself and mostly my strengths. My knowledge on what I already know to be able to bring this knowledge into this classroom and hopefully change and learn some new skills.
The product review essay was introduced to us later on in the master maybe a month after the formal letter of introduction. This assignment is for us to find any part of our choosing introduced to get some history back on it, and then review it in the chosen criteria. This essay helps me improve with my drafting and editing. I was able to create many different drafts of writing and I was able to edit it and improve it. Such as my product review first outline, gave a detailed organization of what I would need to write. The main use I had was my first draft. My first draft was highlighted with many mistakes, such as I was not able to identify criteria. An example of this could be when I was talking about comparing my product, which was a Roku TV, to other TVs around the world, and I was not able to only focus on evaluating my product such as differently on why it functions differently and I was unable to get correct information such as saying that my product was cheaper and it turns out there are all the models that are more economic friendly. So Revising my essay I was also able to make it more appealing as I included a title, which was “ outdoor Roku TV buy it”, and I was able to identify the correct criteria and correctly evaluate like I stated in my essay, very entertaining durable, and it has all long functionality. Components that were missing on my first draft, drafting was of huge importance throughout this course, and it helped me look at the errors I would create from missing information and spelling mistakes.
As to my lab report, and essay, I will in my final job I was able to study a genre of treatments for cancer As I was able to gain a lot of information from different treatments such as my first report, I was able to analyze I learned how PC3 cells or prostate cells were able to be used for cancer treatment, and this also was shown drama other reports which report two and three, were both talking about new ways to care for cancer patients and help them with cell adhesion or other different processes. Not only I was able to learn so much about this single topic. I was able to correctly summarize scientific wording. This can be shown in my lab report approval and discussion boards where I had to identify different reports and summarize their information. I could go back to my first report I was able to find about new ways to use hospice to treat cancer patients I was able to read throughout the entire report which had a lot of scientific talks and correctly summarize it into words that my audience could understand which was in this discussion board, my professor. Was able to explain that report one is a survey-based report and able to explain its topic such as different perspectives on why people think hospice providers are better for taking care of patients with blood cancer the importance of blood transfusions and why it should be a higher rate. In the making of this final version of my lab report analysis, I was able to use many different databases to locate proper sources for this analysis. All of my reports were secured and peer-reviewed articles. I was able to use different sites to look for them such as Google Scholar, the CCNY database, and lastly science direct.
So the technical description was to also choose a product of my choice, which is the PS4 controller. I was comfortable with describing it, and a technical fashion. So the way I started working on this project was breaking down Controlla. I had a home, which was my brother’s. I was able to break it down peace my business, and I identified each one of them but overall something that was I was able to learn and improve on the writing of this technical description, the organization, and creating a good flow of my work. Had a nice dance by the end of the as I was able to give different subcategories for my product’s pieces. This was shown through my essay as I named my categories, and different sections, such as the exterior parts were called the exterior or outer casting. The interior was named the internal components of the PS4 controller. another way that I was able to create this nice organization or stance was the use of a table of contents as I barely ever used one before, but this was my first real attempt at a table of contents and I was able to split my essay and three sections, history, outer layer and internal layer. I was able to socialize during the creation of this technical description, as I was able to work in my groups and look for peer editing suggestions.
One of my classmates was able to tell me how to better add the pictures into my essay, which was a discussion post by Moiz Atiq and he was able to help me understand why I should have pictures on each of my parts as someone will always get what I’m talking about and will understand what part of the PS4 controller I’m talking about. This was also vice versa as I was also able to give different feedback to others. Like the same classmate Moiz I was able to read his draft and inform him that he should be able to fail in his different measurements. Overall most of his essay was having a time good but the things that I told him that he was still missing here and there were able to help him hopefully and work out his description.
During the creation of the collaborative project, I was able to talk about making your type of drops to create anti-fogging, coding, and new glasses. This idea was created by me and my group for our proposal paper. Our proposal paper was infused with a lot of information, and a lot of different sources were used during the creation of this project. As I was able to use different sources like stroggles, chemical, direct and science direct all of these were cited in APA format throughout their use during this project. I was able to use the sources to explain the different processes of antifogging coding. And thanks to being able to paraphrase a lot of the information in the stroggles website. I was able to explain the antifog coating is a way to stop fog from happening with the glasses and was used through the process of creating hydrophilic compounds, which was our solution for our drops. Even more throughout this project, I was able to have more social aspects throughout, this assignment as me and my group will always maintain a lot of contact and communication throughout the writing of this project and a lot of our work was positive through many discussion boards. Lastly, something that helped me grow as a writer I was able to organize and summarize a lot of information and research through this paper into slides. To create a good presentation for our class.
Send me weekly reflections throughout the course was used to evaluate house eye growth throughout the course I was running the semi-reflections, part of the week required I was able to navigate through my writing goals as I will see here it also reflected on my past achievements, such a different reflections in my English classes beforehand. I was able to write down how I was learning throughout my writing process through the use appear editing and reading comments on my work. Also, was able to learn different managing skills while I was writing this down as I needed to take out time to be able to write these 70 weekly reflections as they always point out, something new, I will learn throughout these weeks like my organization on different assignments, was also pointed out during these reflections like in week eight I was talking about my time management skills, and how professor Rodwell class was able to help me organize the readings and make sure I had enough time to get through with them. I was also able to notice that some of my writing was getting better as I also noticed down here and week five I was able to improve on my grammar and spelling mistakes throughout the creation of my product review essay.
My reflection memos were a big part of my assignments as each of my three big assignments used reflective memos and each one of them. I reflected on what I was able to improve or what I still need to improve during the creation of my assignments. this gave me help with self-assessment throughout this semester. As I was able to know my goals in this class and to check off my old goals like stated before the organization of paragraphs or more notably being able to go through a lot of my grammar mistakes and notifying that this is a big problem like in my reflective memo for the product review essay I stated that I need to be able to work and read through work and low-key more grammar mistakes as this piece was with these errors.
Overall throughout the discourse, I was able to learn a lot of different writing processes and to educate myself in different ways to writing, essays or memos, etc. Professor Rodwell was able to help me a lot throughout most of these processes was able to learn new skills throughout this course.
